Junior Madelyn Pierce is a constant presence on campus, whether she’s participating in multiple clubs, keeping up with her Advanced Placement classes, or leading the girls’ water polo team to victory. She balances it all while thriving in her junior year.
Pierce loves staying busy with school and being involved in a lot of activities. She’s especially passionate about Key Club. Not only is she an active member at Buena, but she also represents Division 42 West of Key Club.
“I work for the division, so I am the secretary between Buena, Ventura, and about eight other schools in the district,” Pierce said.
Pierce has also chartered and is taking the role as the co-president of Buena’s new Speech and Debate club. She spends time managing with co-president and best friend junior Evan Ruiz.
Pierce and Ruiz have shared a special bond that has been growing ever since they were in kindergarten.
“She’s very kind, funny… a very decent and cool person to have around,” Ruiz said.
Pierce plans on studying the pre-medicine route once she finishes high school. Her dream is to attend UC Davis or UC Santa Cruz and become a pediatrician.
“Any sort of biology or science career is what I want to pursue,” Pierce said. “I really want to become a pediatrician in the future.”
Among her extensive list of extracurriculars, Pierce was involved in a representative team for an organization called “Night To Remember”, which is a large-scale dance event held to celebrate special needs students. Pierce is able to engage with special needs teens so they are able to have other experiences as their peers.
As the captain of Buena’s Girls Water Polo team, Pierce holds significant responsibility for leading her team with positivity and encouragement throughout every game. While she doesn’t play a set position, she’s always ready to step in wherever needed as captain.
Pierce has been able to inspire others as well as keeping up with challenges that her AP classes throw at her, she’s willing to get up and keep pushing.
“She inspires me to be more determined academically, but also socially, because she does keep a very good social life maintaining said academic[s],” sister Hayden Pierce said.

While maintaining an active social life, relationships with her friends from different kinds of extracurriculars and thriving with her current friendships, Pierce is only at the beginning of creating her own story.
“She is involved in so many different things, like wellness peers, water polo, etc. She’s seen everywhere, and she’s a good representation of Buena,” Ruiz said.
