The Buena Bulldogs lost their four game win streak to Santa Barbara on the evening of Tuesday Sep. 23. Buena ended with a 0-3 loss, the first set ending at 12-25, the second at a close 22-25 and the final set at 21-25.
Despite the loss, Buena did not give up, trying to get ahead at every moment, but unfortunately they could not pull through and take away one win.
Throughout the first set, the Bulldogs put pressure on Santa Barbara, with Junior and number eight Rilee Gosselin making the first point of the game, followed by two missed serves made by Santa Barbara. Later in the first set, Senior and number nine Ariette Garcia made an impressive spike to get Buena to nine points. Senior and number 11 Dylan Classen made a crucial block that ended up giving Buena another point, bringing the score to 11-17, Santa Barbara. The first set ended with a strong move by Santa Barbara, a hard serve that Buena couldn’t quite save in time.

In the second set, Junior and number six Kenna Wilson got the momentum going for Buena by getting the first point. The hard work from Wilson didn’t end there, as she quickly made a block right after, earning another point. Later in the game, Gosselin made a fifth point. Unfortunately, Buena couldn’t stop Santa Barbara from keeping the lead, and they lost the second set.
In the third and final set, there was hard work and determination from all players on the court, and despite Buena being down 2-0, they kept pushing ahead. Throughout the set, Buena and Santa Barbara both put up a good battle, but the final score wasn’t in favor for Buena, ending at 22-25, giving Santa Barbara a 3-0 victory and cutting off Buena’s win streak.
After the game, varsity coach Amaris Garcia reflected on their season. “We definitely have to have our highs and lows throughout the season. We just came off a four streak win.” Garcia said. “It’s good to have these moments where we can learn from them and really put what we need to in practice this coming week,”
