Buena’s homecoming, Viva Carnival, a themed take on the “Rio vibe”, took place Oct. 12 on Buena’s home field, with jungle decorations and an on-point atmosphere. This dance, unlike previous years, came back with mostly positive reviews, as students raved about the music and theme, reporting an overall positive experience at the event.
Most students that attended thought it was a step up from last year, as the dance featured a larger variety in games, more popular music genres and decorations to support the theme. Having a higher attendance than the last homecoming, with a bigger dance floor area, better music and better speakers, the dance felt alive.
Students that attended mentioned they would have liked to have a larger sum of modern songs and a faster way to check in when initially getting into the dance. Despite the negative feedback, most of those who attended had an unexpectedly good time, even recommending their peers who opted out of the dance to join in next year.
“It’s fun [and I think]] a lot more people should come,” sophomore homecoming attendee Alexandria Amarilla said.
Senior class president Alex Orrantia directed this year’s homecoming and was extremely proud of the event. Her and the vice president Julianna Ramirez had chosen the theme, wanting a colorful ending to summer.
“Usually, [when picking the homecoming theme, we tend to] go with darker themes like “Hollywood” or “New York”. We [were thinking for this year], it’s the end of summer why not do something big and bold,” Orrantia said.
Orrantia noted the hard work her fellow ASB members put in to make homecoming magical. Despite having slight difficulties with the photo booth background, she thought for “what they had to work with”, Buena’s ASB did great.
“I feel like a lot of people liked the DJ. I loved how bright [and colorful] it was. [Students were] bold, getting a lot of different colored dresses [that] went with the theme. I [also] feel like it was promoted very well,” Orrantia said.
Overall, the event was a success in bringing students together. Whether students found themselves in big groups, a couple of friends or even flying solo, one thing was for sure: Memories were made.
