This week has become one of the biggest weeks ever in music streaming thanks to Taylor Swift’s new album, “The Life of a Showgirl.” Yet, fans are left unsure if it lives up to the talented name that’s so widely spread around the world.
Debuting Oct. 3rd, 2025, this 12 song album has achieved massive commercial success and broke various records in less than a week. This album was produced by Swift herself, Max Martin and Shellback, whom she worked with on some of her previous albums, “Lover,” “1989” and “Reputation.” This pop influenced album is joyful and peppy, where the hidden meanings of her lyricism can be uncovered by listening.
Though this album skyrocketed on charts, her fan base, “Swifties,” as they are known, can’t help but share their controversial opinions on the internet. Some fans love this album, as they strongly enjoyed the work that Martin and Shellback did on her previous albums, while others did not. From almost all of her albums being melancholic, they’re unsure about if they like this joyful switch that Swift made so suddenly.
This switch in tone was caused by her public relationship with the Chief’s tight end and now fiance, Travis Kelce. In the opening song of the album, “The Fate of Ophelia,” Swift references her to be the main character, Ophelia, in William Shakespeare’s tragic story, “Hamlet.” In the play, Ophelia is heartbroken and driven insane after her lover, Prince Hamlet, yet is eventually saved. In this light, Kelce is her savior from her past. Now that she’s head over heels in love, uplifted, cheerful sounds are all that will come our way.
The music video had a special in-theaters release before it was publicly aired. When she went on the “Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon”, she was asked why it was exclusively shown.
“We wanted it to mimic the Era’s Tour; we wanted to bring everyone together again,” Swift said on the show.
It surely did. Millions of fans went over to their local theaters in order to sing, dance and celebrate the new great album Swift so graciously gave.
Many chapters in her life have been closed and deserted. She’s finally at a happy and content point in her life that she’s battled the media so hard for. Yet, her fans are already wondering, what will happen next? Will she stop producing music, or will she continue? We’ll have to wait and see!
