In person graduation will take place for class of 2021
May 17, 2021
After much discussion, it has been decided that all high schools in the Ventura Unified School District will have an in person, traditional graduation ceremony. However, due to an AP testing scheduling conflict, Buena will host their ceremony at the stadium Wednesday, June 9, at 3 p.m., instead of on the last day of school.
There will be a mandatory graduation rehearsal which will take place Tuesday, June 8, at 2 p.m. and information will be sent out four days prior to the event.
Since this rehearsal will last approximately two hours, senior advisor and assistant principal Tiffany Emhoff suggests students, “dress comfortably… wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes.”
The day before the ceremony rehearsal June 7, there will be a collection and distribution “where [senior] students turn in their textbooks, laptops, and pay any obligations they owe,” Emhoff said.
At the distribution, students will be able to receive their graduation tickets along with their cap and gown.students will receive four guest tickets and social distancing will be required for both students and audience members.
“In the stadium stands, guests will be seated in either groups of two or four and will be distanced from the next group,” Emhoff said.
If Ventura County remains in the orange tier for June, distancing will be six feet, but if the county moves to the yellow tier, the required distancing may be three feet.
For the day of graduation Emhoff asks that “ladies, please remember that your shoes cannot have a spiky heel that will damage the turf on the stadium.”
On the same day as the collection and distribution, Buena will be hosting a senior barbecue at 4 p.m. This will be an event at which seniors will receive a free, pre-ordered meal, opportunities to play games, and music will be played.
