As Buena got ready to begin their championship run with their first game of CIF the crowd was ready.
The Lady Bulldogs this season had an impressive 21-5 record while their opponents the Armens came in at 14-13. Both teams started the game off slow but Sophomore Karisma Lewis got things going for Buena early hitting 2 first quarter threes. At the end of the quarter. Bunea had a 14-8 lead. Bunea didn’t slow down after that, Senior Skye Thomas could not be stopped getting rebound after rebound. The Armens were left with no choice but to foul her, but she made them pay. Going into halftime Buena held a comfortable 25-14 lead.
“We felt good going into the half” said Lewis
Going into the third quarter Buenas defense stepped up in a big way they were creating turnover after turnover and scoring easy fastbreak layups. The Armens had Buena’s Junior Oliva Decierdo to thank for that. Decierdo and Lewis helped propel Buena up to a 44-27 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Starting the fourth quarter Lewis came out hot hitting multiple threes and tough contested layups. With some help from Thomas the Bulldogs were able to seal the game and move onto the second round of the playoffs breezed by the Armens with a 63-30 lead.
“We look to continue to dominate throughout the rest of the playoffs,” said Moon.
