Presidential candidate Kamala Harris’ campaign has gained mounds of support from celebrities and their fanbases. Celebrities’ passion towards voting for the leader of our country is effectively moving Harris as the 2024 election date creeps closer and closer.
Following the Sept. 10 debate between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump, musical artist Taylor Swift announced her endorsement of the Harris-Walz campaign to her 284 million Instagram followers. Along with Swift, other celebrities such as Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, and Finneas O’Connell have expressed their support for Harris. Celebrity support has had a large impact on the Harris campaign.
“I’m voting for Kamala Harris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift said via her Instagram.
With her endorsement came a wave of “Swifties” rushing to register as voters. Rachel Davis, General Services Administration spokesperson, informed Forbes that within the first 24 hours of her announcement, Swift’s link to registration site vote.gov prompted over 400,000 clicks to the website.
Along with Swift, numerous celebrities have publicly announced their support for Harris’s campaign. Eilish and O’Connell urged followers to vote for Harris-Walz Tuesday, Sept. 17 via Instagram.
“We can’t let extremists control our lives, our freedoms and our future,” O’Connell said on his Instagram.
The two artists have previously stressed the importance of solving issues like climate change, and further emphasized the topic in their endorsement video. In addition, they point out Harris and Walz’s protection of America’s reproductive freedoms and democracy.
After her highly acclaimed summer 2024 album release, titled “Brat,” musical pop artist Charli XCX, made a brief post expressing her praise towards Harris via X (Twitter) July 21.
Following Charli XCX’s open support, the Harris campaign began to use the easily recognizable lime green color as a promoting technique. The use of the trend appealed largely to Gen Z voters and underage supporters alike.
“This is one of the most polarized elections we have had,” junior Benjamin Everard said. “But I think celebrities have the most influence over people even if they aren’t very political.”
