Buena faces crushing defeat versus Santa Barbara. Going into the second game against the Santa Barbara Dons, the Bulldogs had a losing record of 1-12 while the Dons had an impressive 10- 2 record, the previous game Buena lost 7-1 and had the same outcome on the second matchup against the opponent
Buena started off slow as Santa Barbara held the Bulldogs to zero through the first three innings. Santa Barbra on the other hand started off hot, scoring four runs in the first inning alone. However, the Bulldog defense picked it up and notch and stood firm the following two innings, keeping the Dons from scoring for two straight innings.
In the bottom of the fourth it began to go really down hill for the Bulldogs. The Dons scored three which gave the Dons a seven run lead going into the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs showed signs of a comeback with Sophomore Mason Trigo hitting a double. Just one batter later, Buena’s senior Nyko Garica hit a double of his own. Garcia double set Trigo up with enough time to be able to make it to home plate and make the score 7-1.
“I feel as a team on defense we need to play more team ball instead of trying to make the play that makes you cooler individually, I feel if the team did this we could turn everything around,” Trigo said.
The Dons put a halt to their momentum forcing Buena’s third out before they scored another run. Buena and Dons outfield held strong for the rest of the game. Neither team was able to score again. The game ended in favor of the Dons. For the second time this week the Bulldogs have gone home with a 7-1 loss to the Dons.
