Friday May 5, the wellness center kicked off Mental Health awareness month with a “Wellness Faire” packed with fun events and games. An array of tables from different organizations were set up offering both information and interactive activities.

  • Students were given a “checklist” upon entering the fair and were tasked with completing 10 activities. After completing each activity they revived a stamp on their checklist, after receiving 10 stamps they could exchange the list for a cookie or açaí bowl.

  • Wellness peer, Madysen Hawley helps students make stress balls by filling balloons with orbeez as one of the peer led activities.

  • Students can paint rocks with different designs or positive messages. The wellness center provides rocks, paint, glitter glue, and stickers to add a little extra flare to this activity.

  • An organization called “Farm to school” placed their table at the center of the fair. They provided fresh fruits and vegetables for students to sample and take home.

  • Juniors, Delaney Timons, Shai Daniels, Owen Stiles, Erik Schwartz, Brianna Flores, and Avery Wells enjoy fresh strawberries from the “farm to school” table. The sweet treat was the perfect snack on this sunny spring afternoon.

  • The Ventura County office of education placed a corn hole board at the fair. The board displayed interesting facts and dangers surrounding E-cigarettes, an counterintuitive coping skill adopted by many teenagers.

  • Fluffy puppies, the perfect calming experience during a stressful time filled with AP testing. These emotional support dogs were stationed just near the entrance of the fair to greet incoming students. With the sun overhead the dogs rested under the shade of the table, but were more than happy to come out and say hi to any passing person.

  • Another table in the fair featured a large white piece of paper covering the table and markers. Students were prompted to write positive messages, or anything that was on their mind.

  • BRITE, building resilience & inclusion through engagement, is a nonprofit organization that works to promote mental health and well being through arts. Their table featured touch stones, markers, and paper. Students could draw or write a message on a small piece of paper and attach it to a clear stone.

  • Junior Denisse Leon picked up a few goodies from the fair, including a green ribbon sticker that represents mental health awareness, along with a bracelet, and a pride flag.
