As senior Reagan Espinoza glides through her last year of high school, she confidently holds her head high continuing to spread kindness and positivity in everything she’s does all while cherishing the support of her best friends by her side.
Along with serving as Senior Class President, Reagan Espinoza has been involved in the Wellness Center for two years, participated in AVID for three years, and played on the varsity soccer team throughout all four years of high school. These experiences have provided her with invaluable opportunities to pursue her dream of becoming an NFL broadcaster.
Despite keeping busy being involved in multiple clubs, Espinoza is able to manage her time well and not get stressed out. “I did the majority of my classes over summer, and it’s easy to manage things,” Espinoza said.
In her pursuit of sports broadcasting, Reagan Espinoza has actively sought out leadership positions at Buena, stepping up to build her confidence and hone valuable skills. These experiences have equipped her with tools that will serve her well, no matter where her journey takes her.
She hopes to attend Syracuse University in New York and joined AVID to help guide her throughout the application process. As a freshman, she didn’t have a clear understanding of what AVID was or what she wanted her future to look like, so she joined AVID during her sophomore year when a friend encouraged her to see what it would be like.
Heather Arrambide, AVID and English teacher here at Buena shares how Espinoza just has this thing about her where you know she’s going to be something as they get older. “She’s poise and has this sort of self assuredness about her where after twenty years of teaching I can tell which kids are more determined and she is definitely one of those students” Arrambide said.
Espinoza explained that she enjoyed discovering her personal process throughout her college journey and figuring out what truly sparked her interest. “It’s very beneficial to know my way through college and understand what I want in life,” Espinoza said.
Although becoming a broadcaster is her dream, Espinoza has also kept an open mind to exploring other opportunities within the NFL. “There’s so many things in the communication world, like media management, for different teams,” Espinoza said.
Senior Kameron Rodriguez has been friends with Espinoza since freshman year as they also played on Buena’s soccer team at one point, and have become amazing friends over the years.
“She is one of my best friends, and I love her so much, she’s been such a good influence on me by always being happy and being there for me with anything I need,” Rodriguez said.
Head Coach of the girls’ soccer team, Trish Butterbaugh, shares a special bond with Espinoza. Butterbaugh highlighted Espinoza’s remarkable improvement since her first year, noting how she consistently grows with each game. She also praised Espinoza’s leadership as captain, emphasizing how the team can always rely on her to guide and support them toward success. Butterbaugh makes it clear that it would be difficult to imagine the team without Espinoza out on the field.
“I think what makes her strong is her consistency and her dependability,” Butterbaugh said, “some players can go up and down but Reagan, she’s outstanding every game,”
By taking on the responsibility of running the social media for the girls soccer team, she’s able to commit to her part and organize things as well. “She’s a go-getter, and was able to run away with it and do an amazing job of showcasing everyone and the team as a whole.” Butterbaugh said.
Espinoza and teammate senior Kimberly Chavarria, came up with a unique idea for their team to be able to include the famous quote from football, “row the boat.” They were able to engrave two oars with the words “Buena Girls Soccer” in the middle of them. By doing that the two were able to create a new symbol for their soccer program, but also to represent their team as a whole.
“I was really excited that she [Espinoza] would be my lead, her and Kim would be my leaders. I feel like they both will get the team where it needs to be, by them being leaders with action and their voices. ” Butterbaugh said.
