In Buena’s student parking lot, water splashed 10 willing seniors as laughter filled the air at the first ever Soak-a-Senior event, Apr. 10, which brought a group of Bulldogs to come soak their favorite upperclassmen, and make core memories for their senior year.
After the stressful college decision season and a long third quarter, ASB gave back to the hardworking seniors by creating the Soak-a-Senior event. Crowds of students made their way to the student parking lot to watch the action. Cups of water were sold for $1, and buckets for $5, which brought in funds for ASB to create more events like this in the future. Senior Diego Mendoza was able to buy a cooler full of water for $30 to dump on his friend, senior Ryan Nunes.
“The event went really well and I would like to make it a tradition at Buena,” freshman Jolie Guerrier said. She proposed the idea of the event and successfully executed it with the help of her ASB committee. “We wanted to have something the seniors could look forward to so we created this [Soak-a-Senior] to fill their year with fun memories.”
After more than 15 seniors volunteered to get soaked, ASB students randomly chose 10: Amalia Nolan, Annamarie Miller, Axel Sarabia, Shai Daniels, Jasmine Paramo, Lianna Powell, Lybya Eufracio, Mason Evans, Ryan Nunes, and Gia Donaldson.
Senior Gia Donaldson participated because she wanted to make her last year count by being involved with a multitude of different activities. “This event was so memorable because nobody cared about what others were thinking of them, so we were able to just live in the moment,” Donaldson said.
Week after week, graduation rapidly approaches and the big futures await the class of 2024. Soak-a-Senior was an opportunity for friends from all grades to celebrate the seniors and give them a hint of the childhood joy they will forever cherish.
Senior Avery Wells was a big fan of the event, buying several cups and buckets, and even bringing water bottles from her car to keep her friends sopping wet.
“My experience was great, it made my day so much better because it was so funny to watch,” Wells said. “Seniors can enjoy their senior year to the fullest and have fun, which is so important.”
