After a four-year hiatus, Harry Styles made his grand return, Jan. 15, 2026 by announcing his long-awaited album, “Kiss All the Time. Disco, Occasionally”, which is set to be fully released on March 6, 2026. To give his fans a preview of the disco, synth-pop record, Styles released “Aperture”, the first track of the album, and followed with the music video and dates for his world tour scheduled to start in May 2026.
With his “Love on Tour” lasting 22 months and the release of “Harry’s House”, Styles took a break from the public eye. Now, returning with “Aperture”, fans are buzzing about the new genre that Styles is pursuing and the new era he is entering.
Naima’s take:
At first listen, I was caught off guard by the synth beats. I had heard rumors that the album would be different from Styles’ previous releases, which are more funk and pop focused, but I didn’t quite know what to expect. Hearing Styles’ voice blend into the rhythm and build to the chorus reminded me of similar sounding artists like Lorde or Tame Impala. The mellow introduction was a nice start to the song, a sweet opening to the first listen. The song kept building, leaving me anticipating the chorus.
As the chorus hit and the “we belong together” lyrics echoed through my headphones, I was brought right back to the “Love On Tour” era, and I could clearly picture him opening his shows with the powerful song. The message, especially in such divisive times, is important as it serves as a reminder that we are not so different from each other as we are led to believe. We need to continue to treat people with kindness now, more than ever before.
Avery’s take:
I think many listeners were expecting something closer to Styles past hits like “Sign of the Times” and “As it Was,” so with such a different vibe, a controversy was sparked within the fan base.
Going into my first listen, I anticipated disco influences based on the album’s title, so I was happily surprised and prepared for the synth-heavy, techno-inspired production. As someone who generally pays attention to the lyrics, I’ve always appreciated Styles’s songwriting, and I don’t have any strong music preferences, so the song was an easy win for me.
The verses steadily build to the chorus, which perfectly blended with the rest of Styles’s discography. “We belong together” carries a familiar message of love and unity, fitting naturally alongside themes he has explored throughout his career. While the vibe is different, the heart of the music remains the same, making this new style a welcome evolution in my book.
For the rest of the album, we expect similar themes, lyrics and sounds to distinguish the album from the rest as a marking of a new chapter of Styles’ career. As the album was written between 2024-2025, we expect a tribute song to his late One Direction ex-bandmate, Liam Payne, who passed away in Oct. 2024. Overall, we look forward to his new sound and the excitement that new music always brings.
However excitement surrounding the album has been complicated by the announcement of the “Together, Together” tour. The tour includes 30 shows at Madison Square Garden, the only stop in the United States, which left fans stunned. Compared to the multiple international dates, the month-long residency in one U.S. city felt exclusionary to many. High ticket prices fueled the fire, with seats being as high as $1,100. The concerts have become widely inaccessible for most fans, leading to cries of scrutiny.
Between a bold genre shift, limited concert venues, and expensive ticket pricing, fans are beginning to question what this new era means, not just musically, but culturally. While Styles continues to push creative boundaries, the challenge ahead may be balancing artistic growth with the inclusivity that helped build his devoted following in the first place. Whether this era strengthens that bond or strains it remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Harry Styles has everyone watching, listening, and debating once again.
