“The Crash”, the Netflix documentary social media is raving about, creates a doom scroll of opinions. Is she innocent? Is she guilty?
On July 31, 2022 Mackenzie Shirilla was the driver of an attempted suicide deadly car accident, resulting in the death of 20-year-old Dominic Russo, Shirilla’s boyfriend, and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan, a mutual friend. According to court reports, the car slammed into a brick wall going an estimated 100 mph, and it was determined that in-between the five seconds before the collision there was no attempt in brake usage, leaving the accelerator being fully pressed to the floor.
After Shirilla was taken into the hospital for surgery involving broken bones in her right leg and arm, she was screened for drugs and alcohol which soon came out negative ruling out driving under the influence (DUI). This left the only two other causes of the crash being a vehicle malfunction or a planned murder. After finding the brakes to be in perfect use and no use of them at all while at the top speed of the car it was ruled that she intentionally crashed the car.
Later in the investigation as police look through the Life360 tracking app they find Shirilla driving the same route multiple times days before the murder.
As families sat there in grief with Shirilla, they wouldn’t have realized the person they were trying to protect would have been convicted of the murders of their children, having to serve life with the possibility of parole after 15 years.
The court reports flew through the media, and it was revealed that this is now being attempted for an appeal in the Supreme Court. Shirilla’s family is not backing down to get her out of something she decided to get herself into.
When the court footage and interviews are shown in the documentary, viewers can start to see a flow of reviews popping up on social media and many feel strongly about this case.
TikTok influencers all around have very strong opinions on this matter, and Mandi stepped up and spoke her opinion.
“You 100 percent meant to press that pedal into the floor and crash into that building,” Mandi said.
Another Tiktok influencer Caroline Baudino also has a strong opinion.
“I think it is very odd she drove that path two days before the crash, and that her foot was never on the brakes and she thinks she isn’t guilty,” Baudino said.
