After nearly seven years, a new “Star Wars” movie reaches the big screen with “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu” out on May 22, 2026. “The Mandalorian” series became a blazing success with a raging amount of potential for a movie to be put alongside some iconic Star Wars media, but how well did they really do in executing a movie for such a critically acclaimed series?
To start, the acting in this movie was not half bad. With an expectedly entertaining performance from Pedro Pascal (the Mandalorian), a pleasing one from Sigourney Weaver (Colonel Ward) and a notable performance from Jeremy Allen White (Rotta the Hutt), there wasn’t anything to complain about with the acting in this movie. It could have been better at points, but it still remained engaging with the characters a majority of the time.
This movie excels in its visuals. It was not surprising that the production value in this film was going to be off the charts considering the initial success of “The Mandalorian” series which was already visually pleasing. The film manages to keep a consistent color palette of stunning varieties of greens and yellows that really captured the original feel of “The Mandalorian” in such a gorgeous way.
Although this movie brought a visually beautiful story to the screen, the actual story left much to be desired. The plot this movie executed was far from horrible; however, it was all action, and although I had fun watching it, it did not necessarily bring anything new to the already established series.
When watching this movie having already seen “The Mandalorian” series, it kind of feels like another episode with nothing of substance. It could even be classified as a couple filler episodes in the series. The Mandalorian and Grogu were definitely cute, but there was not exactly a turning point in their relationship, and the film just seemed to follow the standard formula of a “Star Wars” film or a sequence of episodes from “The Mandalorian” – Mandalorian goes to a location, kills some bad guys, goes back to base, repeat.
Even if nothing necessarily important happens or is said in this movie regarding the world of “Star Wars” or even a development of any relationships in “The Mandalorian”, it is certainly not terrible. It has an interesting enough story line that you stick around for, it is filled with pretty entertaining action sequences and it was fun to watch and look at. I do not regret seeing this movie whatsoever, but I am a little disappointed.
If you are looking for an action-packed and fun extended episode straight from season one of “The Mandalorian” for you to turn off your brain, this movie is for you.
