“Predator Badlands” is the latest movie in the “Predator” series, and it throws us all into a desert area called “the Badlands”. It is a pretty simple story where a group of people crash land in the middle of nowhere and end up being hunted by a predator.
Summary
The setup is that you’ve got this group of survivors, including a young soldier trying to prove, a scientist chasing odd energy readings and a bunch of prisoners who were in the process of being moved. At first, they do not get along, but they are eventually forced to team up as they realize something’s hunting them.
As they are trying to survive, they find some old ruins and realize the Predator has been using the Badlands as a hunting ground for who knows how long. This adds a bit of mystery, as they set up traps, try to fight back and basically do whatever they can to outsmart the Predator.
The movie ends with a big showdown where the remaining survivors have to face the Predator. They’re running low on supplies, and they struggle but work together to give themselves a fighting chance. Using a combination of strategy and their abilities, they are able to defeat the Predator.
My Review
I enjoyed that it was a very high energy action movie, and that it had cool changes in perspective by showing the Predator hunting. It made for really good visuals of the alien planet and the introduction of the new character, Thia. I think that adding the character Thia gave a new dynamic by balancing the violence and suspense with humor.
With the positives, there were also some negatives that unfortunately dragged down the movie’s potential. There were a few logic flaws and a lack of tension and horror. Some critics also commented that there were too many unnecessary scenes breaking up the hunt and ruining the tension.
Overall, I think the “Predator Badlands” is a decent action movie. It’s got some cool predator moments and a dessert setting, which makes for a nice change. It’s not the best Predator movie ever, but if you are a fan of the series it’s worth a watch.
