U.S. politician Kristi Noem was dismissed in March 2026 as Secretary of Homeland Security of the United States. Particularly, strongly criticised was the handling of their ministry with operations by security authorities, in which U.S. citizens also died. Noem had initially defended this incident and sometimes described the victims as terrorists, which was later refuted by evidence.

A particularly controversial example was a state-funded advertising campaign worth 200 million dollars, which was awarded without regular tendering procedures. This campaign was supposed to support the government’s immigration policy but was seen and criticised by many politicians as a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Reports about a possible relationship with a close employee, as well as criticism of her behaviour at hearings in Congress, additionally damaged her credibility.
