Seniors united one last time for the last game of the 2025-2026 Buena varsity baseball season on May 1, 2026. The season came to an end with a loss to the Pacifica Tritons, 0-2. Even though it ended with a loss, coaches and players are still thinking ahead for next season.
“I’m going to go about the business here in the program the same as usual and not change the style,” Buena’s varsity baseball head coach Bryson Wallet said.
The game had started with the Triton’s ball, but Buena’s defense started off strong, forcing no one to get a run. On Buena’s offensive side, the ball started off with an out but soon came out with catcher senior Gabe Alanzo got a base hit to first. Following Alonzo’s hit came a pop fly out and a muffed pitch to get a runner on second base and first base. However, sadly soon after the muffed pitch, the next batter struck out.
Starting the second inning, pitcher and shortstop senior Brody Kaylor stayed in the game pitching, and the trend followed from the first inning of Buena’s defense playing well forcing another scoreless inning from the Tritons. However, it was also backed by the Tritons’ strong defense, which held firm and kept buena from scoring any runs.
This trend followed through almost the whole game from both sides of the ball with the Triton’s and Buena’s defense both doing great. Sadly, in the fifth inning, the Bulldogs gave up two runs.
The Bulldogs tried as hard as possible to score but were unable to. The Triton’s defense played great, and the Bulldogs just couldn’t get in the right spot to score which followed through the whole rest of the game ending in a pop fly out to left field.
With the season being over, all the seniors are saying goodbye to not only baseball but their beloved team. They have been building not only friendships but brotherships in the game that means so much to the players.
“I mean, it’s a very bittersweet moment. We have a really special group of guys here. I think, just to speak more on that, I mean, as a ballplayer, I hate losing more than I love to win. But with the group of guys we have here, I think I’d rather lose with them every game than win with any other team,” senior and centerfielder Jacob Del Rio said.
