Friday, Oct. 17, the Associated Student Body (ASB) hosted the annual open house Halloween festival called Hallow-Fest. Students and families from Buena and other local schools came together to celebrate and have fun. Small but cozy, this festival took place from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
At Hallow-Fest, there was a selection of carnival style Halloween games to play and festive activities to participate in. Participants could get their faces painted, play candy corn ring toss, ‘pin the nose on the jack-o-lantern’, go monster bowling and play zombie eyeball toss.
In addition, many students and parents came in fun and creative costumes, including a costume contest for students and children where they could win candy. People from various ages dressed up, from adorable kindergarteners to high school seniors. There were many different costumes, from a ninja turtle, to a crash test dummy and to duos and trios from Winnie the Pooh.
This ASB-hosted event took a month to plan, from the decorations, to the activities and even the concessions. Since this was the second annual year this event was hosted, ASB learned from their past mistakes and adjusted as necessary.
“I gave myself time to plan this event, to make sure it was [great] and [successful],” senior and the head of Hollow-Fest Mia Martinez said.
Students reported that this festival was a thrilling experience that provided a great environment to spend time with friends and family. A particular favorite amongst most students was the maze, which was evidently frightening and eerie.

“The time I spent with my friends is [going to stick with me] … especially the maze, which was worth it [because] it was pretty scary,” senior Jake Alamillo said.
Consequently, this fun fall event provides an outlet for students and families to celebrate Halloween early and be involved in the community by participating and enjoying themselves.
Overall, Hallow-Fest proved to be a welcoming event for the community. The variety of activities provided entertainment, joy and enthusiasm for students, families, friends and coordinators.
