Since the beginning of the 2025 school year, Buena High School has incorporated a new approach using the Minga Points System. This system has been an inviting way to earn prizes and give recognition to excelling students.
These Minga points are not only obtained by participating in events, festivals, or going to plays around school, but doing things like scanning the QR codes in the halls, winning contests in classes and even being acknowledged by staff around the school. With these points you gain, you can win prizes or have special perks for dances and sports games.
“Right now, [the program] is taking off, there’s an insane amount of students coming up and asking about the prizes,” assistant principal and Minga advocate Tina Perez said.
New talk around Minga has captured the attention of students, making everyone want to participate in events happening around every corner of the school. Sparking conversations and contests, it’s something that you don’t want to miss.
“I really like the prizes,” freshman Abigail Paler said, “I got a free homecoming ticket just from turning in my work on time.”
Anything helpful that students do for the school does not go unnoticed, as teachers can send messages to your parents or guardians, praising your success.
“Minga is not just a hall pass monitor platform. It’s a way for us to give praise and recognize students,” Perez said. “This newfound points system is an amazing way to change the culture for what students want.”
As you walk down the crowded hallways, remember to always look out for those Minga posters. You’ll never know what you could win!
