On Wednesday, Nov. 19, clubs, classes and students participated in Buena’s Food Fair. This biannual celebration hosts Buena’s clubs and programs to raise funds by selling delicious and creative snacks. November’s Food Fair was held on the administration lawn. Multiple clubs showed up to sell food, such as German, Marine Biology, Key Cub, French, Basketball, Buena Speaks and more. With a wide variety for students to choose from, things like sugary bundt cake slices to savory tri-tip were sold.
This exciting event funds many field trips and resources for clubs and has become something very familiar. The addition of tickets this year created a new difficulty for students.
This school year, the use of tickets was introduced instead of using cash. There were designated tables at the event to buy tickets, or they could have been bought beforehand in the Associated Student Body (ASB) store. Reportedly, this confused and inconvenienced students, who for the most part, noticed the change on a short notice.
“I like the new options, I think that they improved on [that aspect], but most students didn’t know to buy tickets until the last minute. That’s why the line [became] so long for tickets,” sophomore Nathan Yanez said.
Despite new troubles, Food Fair gave opportunities for the less known clubs to get out there and become more involved with the community and for world language clubs to spread their culture. One of the clubs that appreciates Food Fairs for the unity and promoting culture is the Movimiento Estudiantil Chicanx de Aztlán (M.E.Ch.A.) club.
“[Everyone] comes together; they all want to participate again. [Everyone] is just happy…and we’re also trying to promote Hispanic culture,” Spanish teacher Crystal Cahuantzi said.

Besides spreading other cultures, this event is also important for smaller clubs like Marine Biology, which joined for the event for the first time, and gains a significant amount of its funds from Food Fair.
“[Food Fair] is the main way we do our fundraising for our club… [We] loved decorating and helping out,” senior Katherine Nguyen, one of three club presidents for Marine Bio club said.
Food Fair faced success once again and with a few improvements for the ticket system, students could potentially be more prepared for it next year, now having more knowledge for what to expect. The variety of groups that showed up will also be able continue to improve and raise money for their club.
