With the many holidays we celebrate, it’s no surprise that people have their favorites. Some of them even are so good they have a whole month based on them. In reflection of this past year’s holidays, I’ve decided to rank the top six.
At number six we have Valentine’s Day which falls on February 14th. The reason I put this one so low is because there is not much meaning. If you have a significant other, this is a fun day to get each other a gift and to appreciate each other. You can get each other gifts and fun surprises. However, if you don’t have one, this day can feel kind of like a normal day. To me this isn’t really an actual holiday.
At number five, we have Thanksgiving. I have Thanksgiving at number 5 for multiple reasons. My first reason is I enjoy spending a lot of time with my family. However, traditional Thanksgiving food like turkey is not my favorite. I’ll have turkey sandwiches and still eat it, but it does not compare to a good steak. Although, I do like being able to eat as much food as I possibly can.
Coming in at number four is Easter. The reason I have Easter here is because, especially in my childhood, I really enjoyed Easter morning. I would get up, go wake my sister up and run downstairs. That was when the Easter egg hunt began. There were around 20 eggs hidden around the house. Some were filled with a little bit of money, while the rest were filled with candy. My sister and I would spend all morning finding them and having a very fun time. Then we would split everything in half. But I also do feel that it lacks spirit, like Halloween and Christmas you can get into the vibe with Easter you can’t really.
Starting the top three is New Year’s Eve and New Year’s day. The reason I have this so high is because I get to spend it with my very good family friends. My parents have known them since way before I was born so they are basically all my cousins. We stay up late, eat good food, have fun and celebrate. Sometimes we skateboard or sometimes we play video games, but no matter what we do, it is always fun.
Halloween comes in second for many reasons. Getting to ride around on your e-bike with friends during Halloween makes for a fun and spooky night. The reason this holiday came in second and not first is because of its fear factor. I’m not a big fan of haunted houses, ghosts, goblins or ghouls.
“I like Halloween because I usually ride my E-bike around with friends,” said Freshman Camden Reggie.
Coming in victorious is Christmas. Christmas is a fan favorite because it has a happy and jolly vibe. Christmas is also a time when I get to see relatives and friends that I may not have seen in a while. Lastly, I appreciate the season of giving. Being able to give a gift is rewarding within itself.
“I like …Christmas because of the holiday spirit, and you get to see family might not get to see often,” Freshman Lily Bosch said.
Whether you agree with my ranking or not, it’s safe to say that everyone has their favorite and it’s just as important.
