The age-old Christmas time debate: When is it appropriate to play Christmas music? While some people wait till mid-November or December to start playing Christmas, others choose to go outside the bound and start playing it sooner or year-round. Personally, I think that Christmas music shouldn’t be played until after Thanksgiving. Don’t get me wrong, Christmas is by far my favorite holiday, but you have to leave space for Thanksgiving.
I know what people are going to say: there is no Thanksgiving music and there is very little Halloween music, so they fill the void with Christmas music. However, by playing Christmas music during Halloween or Thanksgiving, it takes away from the point of the other holidays.
This is why I think Christmas music is so controversial because I know many people that enjoy playing Christmas music in early November and even sometimes late October. I think this is totally wrong because Christmas technically isn’t till the winter. It is okay to play Christmas music after Thanksgiving is done, but if it’s being played in early November, then it is absolutely obnoxious.
However, Junior Serena Springer wholeheartedly disagrees with me.
While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I disagree. If you are one of those people who play Christmas music early, especially for the summertime, it needs to be recognized that this is way too early to get into the holiday spirit. If anything, it’s more acceptable for it to be played after Halloween.
Freshman Tyler Simmons agrees with this sentiment.
“I think the appropriate time to start playing Christmas music is in the second week of November,” Simmons said.
Now that’s more like it. I think that playing it in November is much more acceptable than playing it year-round.
“I am a fan of Christmas music, but it’s seasonal music, so I think that it should be played during the seasonal time,” Simmons said.
There are many different opinions about Christmas music. Most people like it, some people don’t, but overall, I think Christmas music is good. It just needs to be played during the right seasonal time.
