In Camarillo, Calif., a man was taken into custody early Sunday morning following a standoff lasting multiple hours with Ventura County Sheriff’s deputies. This incident began around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 24 and continued through to the next day, when deputies responded to reports of a disturbance on Brookhill Drive near Arneil Road.
Authorities later confirmed the call was related to a domestic situation and possible vandalism. The man inside the house was a 42-year-old Camarillo resident whose name and any further information about him has not yet been released to the public.
According to radio traffic and the Sheriff’s Office, deputies learned that a man inside the home had armed himself, refused to come outside and threatened to shoot any officers who attempted to enter. He also threatened to burn down the house he was located in. Due to the threat of being armed and the domestic part of the call, a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) response was requested to the scene and residents within a two block radius were placed under a “shelter-in-place” order in their houses.
A large law enforcement presence showed up for the incident, including K-9 units, armored vehicles, drones and a helicopter. Teams surrounded the home as negotiations continued for several hours.
Just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 25, deputies breached the garage and front door, reportedly using pepper ball rounds. The suspect was then taken into custody without any further incident, and the loaded hand gun was located inside of the home.
Authorities said the man faces many charges including offenses related to a fire arm, making threats, vandalism and resisting arrest. His bail was set at $30,000 for felony offenses.
