On Feb. 26, 2026, Jim Carrey debuted his new persona, his “true form”, at the 51st Cesar Film Awards in Paris. Little did he know, this would cause public paranoia and speculation of cloning.
When I first saw Jim Carrey’s new look, yes, I was a tad bit startled because he seemed like a completely different person. His eyes were a different color, his hair long and his skin looked fuller with no age lines.
I can see why people think he’s “cloned”, yet it’s such a silly assumption when plastic surgery is a very apparent theme in our world.
If I’m being honest, I was kinda disappointed. Carrey is one of my favorite people, if not favorite person in Hollywood; he’s always been such a natural inspiration to me. Over the years of his career, he’s always been so against pop-culture’s evergrowing ways. I’ve always loved his raw, natural way of life. To see him give into plastic surgery was quite a let down, as personally, I believe he didn’t need it at all. Yet, that’s just my simple take on all this.
Since Carrey is such a private person, we don’t really know what goes on in his life, besides him being on press tours or going to award shows (which is a rare occasion). With that being said, those who don’t know him can’t understand why he made these changes; therefore, no one has the right to judge him. A bigger message needs to be given about that.
He’s not a clone. He’s a person.

People around the world have been on overdrive because of these conspiracies for many years. For example, thinking that “Paul McCartney died and was replaced” or how the “real Avril Lavigne died in 2002 and was replaced by a lookalike”.
First of all, cloning can’t be possible with humans, even in our modern day and age. I believe people made this accusation because of every allegation that’s going on between Hollywood and its known stars.
In an article by The Guardian, Dave Schilling stated such a clear, perfect example of people’s expectations for Carrey.
“Surely, Jim Carrey, a 64-year-old adult man, couldn’t be expected to accept an award with grace and dignity. No, he needed to breach the womb of a rubber rhinoceros, then accept the trophy in the nude. That’s the real Jim Carrey, metaphorically biting the heads off chickens for our amusement. This Jim Carrey – this rank imposter – must have been hatched in a laboratory using the same technology that cloned Tom Brady’s dog,” Schilling said.
I feel like the Internet is so harshly critical when new abrupt changes arise, especially when it’s in a celebrity’s place. Unfortunately, now, Carrey is under that fire.
Were these people not raised with empathy? What I’m saying is that it’s really sad that people are being so mean to someone who’s only been so good to everyone and everything. Even in such a negative, chaotic working environment, as Hollywood was in the 1980s-2000s, he’s still been one of the most admirable people to come from it.
Yes, his appearance is slightly different. So what? It’s his decision for his views of himself, not for anyone else’s.
