Porto, Portugal port captured on colored film by Senior Naima Dickerson. Her film hobby has traveled with her across multiple continents documenting her elegant, vintage street photography style. “There were so many vibrant houses [in Porto] that I loved to take photos of because I like how busy and how colorful the streets are in Europe,” Dickerson said. “There’s more freedom to be colorful and creative [in Europe] that I wanted to encapsulate what I don’t find [in America].”

I took this action shot taken on colored film at Malibu Creek. This shot draws the attention of the viewer towards the light fading into the rock canyon and the dark, ominous water the subject is falling towards.

The palm tree and moon shot in vivid color film in Maui, Hawaii. This photo is impressive because of its framing, as well as the clean capturing of the moon. Film presents a difficult challenge to have a good understanding of lighting and clarity. Specifically, it is very difficult to catch astral images because of the small, distant light of stars and the moon.

Senior Audrey Kwasny captured on a vintage Contax camera with black and white film.. The image showcases contrast between the light and dark water, as well as a glowing effect on the subject caused by a choice to distribute the focus on both the subject and her surrounding environment.

Buena alumni Lyndie Brown took this photo of Santa Cruz Island’s Scorpion Bay on a photography field trip. The photography teacher, Emmet Cullen, recognizes Brown’s authentic passion for film photography as the inspiration for integrating it into Buena’s photography curriculum.
