Southern California’s vibrant music scene brings a variety of artists from neighboring Hawaii’s reggae legends, southern country stars, worldwide pop icons, L.A. indie bands, local surf rockers and more to the 805 area. With the Majestic Theater, Ojai Libbey Bowl and the House of Blues in Anaheim, there are so many upcoming exciting events for Buena students to experience in the next couple weeks.
Folk/Indie Twang:
Father John Misty will be playing at the Ventura Majestic Theater today, March 23, 2026, featuring his hit song “Real Love Baby” along with other indie folk love songs.
Big Thief will be playing the Ojai Libbey Bowl Sept. 19 – 20, 2026 on their American tour that features the beautiful lyricism of Adrianne Lenker. Ojai is about as perfect of a venue as I could pick out for this band, with their poetic themes of nature and love reflecting perfectly in such a homey venue surrounded by trees.
Alternative:
Lord Huron will be playing the Santa Barbara Bowl June 2, 2026. Known for beautifully haunting songs such as “The Night We Met”, I have to give a recommendation to buy a box of tissues along with your ticket.
Modest Mouse has an unique alternative rock style with a bright, yet haunting lead guitar and honest vocals, creating a unique atmosphere for all indie rock concert-lovers. Aug. 4, 2026, they will be performing at the Ojai Libbey Bowl.
Cat Power‘s “The Greatest” Tour, coming to the Ojai Libbey Bowl Aug. 18 features music that is warm and intimate paired with vocals that bring a soulful sound to the indie rock genre.
Pop:
Charlie Puth will be playing at the Santa Barbara Bowl April 25, 2026, bringing an exciting modern pop flare to the list of artists onstage on our coast this year.
David Byrne of the 1980s pop band, Talking Heads, will be at the Santa Barbara Bowl on April 14. His iconic stage presence and voice creates a very fun and nostalgic performance.
Reggae:
In Ventura, Steel Pulse and The Movement will be performing in two of our most iconic venues on upcoming tours throughout this spring and summer.
The Movement will be performing at the Ventura Music Hall on May 23, 2026, with a few opening artists to set the chill island vibes, perfectly fitting the warm summer-like weather.
Steel Pulse will be performing on Aug. 14, 2026 at the Majestic Theater on their “Reggae Against Racism” tour, combining relaxing music with a powerful political message.
