Raiders defensive end Maxx Crosby was scheduled to transfer to the Baltimore Ravens March 6, 2026. However, the Ravens backed out of the trade due to Crosby failing his physical.
Crosby is an American football player who was born Aug. 22, 1997 in Lapper, Michigan and was raised in Colleyville, Texas. He attended Colleyville Heritage High School where he played football for four years and graduated in 2015. He earned All-district honors, All-Area Honors, 5A Elite Underclassmen All-State Second team, and Second team all-district. In 2015, he received his only scholarship from Eastern Michigan University.
In his college career, he played football for Eastern Michigan from 2015-2018. It was the only school to offer him a scholarship. He was selected first-team for the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. They renamed the Rynearson stadium “Crosby Field” in contribution to him. Crosby then proceeded to donate $1 million to the program. He was given the school’s Ring of Honor in 2023.
On May 2, 2019, Crosby joined the Oakland Raiders. He was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft. He started as a defensive end and is now the premier defensive end and edge rusher. In his career, he has been recognized as a elite pass rusher with 69.5 career sacks and 400 tackles which is the most in Raiders history for any defensive linemen in their first six seasons.
He went through some rough times with addiction to alcoholism, but, recently, he celebrated six years in sobriety. He marks the day he went to rehab in 2020, and ever since, has been very open with his addiction and celebrating every milestone.
ESPN reported Crosby would be traded to the Ravens for 2026-2027 first round picks. A lot of fans were very devastated. Campus supervisor Evan Wallace expressed his sadness over the trade.
“As a Raider Fan, I was devastated that we were going to lose Crosby. He’s an amazing defensive player and provided amazing stuff for a dismal season,” Wallace said.
Later it would be announced that the Ravens backed out of the trade due to Crosby failing his physical.
“To be perfectly honest, I’m happy he’s back on the Raiders walls. He would definitely be an absolute beast on the Ravens. I’m happy that at least we get to keep him for the foreseeable future,” Wallace said.
Crosby later discussed the situation on his podcast, The Rush, sharing behind-the-scenes details leading up to the trade and its eventual cancellation. He said the ravens flew him out on a commercial flight, despite private transportation being the industry standard. It is protocol for the player to meet the general manager and the rest of the team. In his podcast, Crosby told fans he barely got to have a conversation with general manager Eric DeCosta. He went hours without seeing him and did medical checks most of the time.
He later met up with DeCosta, and he noted the energy was a little bit off. DeCosta told him that the doctors had concerns about his knee which left him “terrified” and “confused”. This led to the Baltimore Ravens backing out of the trade.
After everything, Crosby is continuing his career with the Raiders and will be in black and silver for the prolonged future.
“I’m a Raider; I’m back,” Crosby said.
